About the reader

The most common question I'm asked by the parents of my high school English students is "what should they be reading?" 

What a complex question! Every experienced teacher and academic agrees that reading is a key tool in unlocking the writing capacity in young people. We also know that reading has many other benefits, including the development of empathy and social awareness, and the act of reading can be relaxing and entertaining in a world where we find fewer and fewer moments to pause. 

If these are some of the significant reasons to read, then students should be seeking texts that challenge them (both socially and academically), but also that they enjoy! And this is where the adventure begins...

My aim is to support teachers in finding the books that their students will love, for reading both in and outside of the classroom. Yes, I can show you some books that can be taught year after year, but I can also show you some that are just really good!
